Whether you’re entertaining or just making a warm home-cooked meal, a clean kitchen is no doubt the heart of the home. As a source of comfort and joy when gathering with family and friends, it’s important to take care of this special place in your home. So, we’ve put together a list of 3 often overlooked details in your home kitchen when cleaning. By incorporating these kitchen details into your cleaning routine, you can add a special touch to the heart of your home.

Clean Kitchen Detail 1: Dishwasher

There’s no question that dishwashers make kitchen chores so much easier. But, this cleaning powerhouse is often overlooked. It’s important to spend some time cleaning your dishwasher every once in a while, to maintain its surfaces and to make sure it’s cleaning your dishes as efficiently as possible.

Dishwasher Cleaning Tip
Your dishwasher consists of many different parts that all make it run smoothly. Clean the outside of the dishwasher door with soap and water or a gentle disinfecting spray. To clean the dishwasher interior, first remove any loose food or debris with a paper towel or cloth. Then, in a dishwasher-safe container, place a cup of vinegar on the top rack. Run the dishwasher with only the vinegar cup inside, on the hottest setting. When the cycle is finished, remove the vinegar cup and wipe down the inside of the dishwasher to keep it looking like new.

Clean Kitchen Detail 2: Garbage Disposal

Garbage disposals are another cleaning power house, getting rid of all those unsightly food bits in your sink. There are many ways to clean a garbage disposal (check out our guide on 2 methods we love!), but no matter the method, the important thing is that it does get cleaning attention on a routine basis. With routine garbage disposal cleaning, you can stop bacteria growth and germs in their tracks.

Clean Kitchen Detail 3: Refrigerator Shelves and Drawers

The final detail to incorporate into your routine kitchen cleaning is refrigerator shelves and drawers. Our refrigerator surfaces are often in contact with all stages of our food – from store-bought fresh to day old leftovers. So, routine cleaning of these surfaces can help prevent food-borne illness and unattractive odors. Again, there are many sprays, techniques and products you can use. The most important thing is that refrigerator shelves and drawers are on your kitchen cleaning checklist!
