Thanksgiving is the most wonderful time of the year for food lovers! And, likely, the most important time to keep your kitchen clean, sanitized and sparkling.

After the Turkey’s been cooked, the pies have been gobbled, and the tryptophan naps have been slept, there’s just one thing left to tackle: the kitchen aftermath.

Even if you’re a tidy, clean-as-you-go home chef, after a big food holiday like Thanksgiving, it’s a good idea to show your kitchen and appliances some extra love. With that in mind, we’ve put together a few handy tips on how to best clean your sink after a Thanksgiving Feast.

Cleaning Tips for Sinks

There are many different types of sinks, but three very common materials are Stainless steel sinks, White Porcelain Sinks, and Copper Sinks. Each one should be cleaned a little differently, so we’ve outlined cleaning methods for each sink type, below:

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is very common, and when properly cleaned and maintained, can bring a ton of sparkle and shine to your kitchen. You can use common household cleaners to give your stainless steel sink some TLC after thanksgiving. Products like Magic Erasers, Dish Soap or Bar Keeper’s Friend will work well. In order to prevent scratches, it’s important to scrub with the natural grain of your stainless steel sink.

White Porcelain

Before cleaning a white porcelain sink, it’s a good idea to sanitize it. To do this, fill the sink with warm water and a very small amount of bleach. Let this solution sit for 5 mixtures, then rinse.

After sanitizing, clean the sink with a baking soda mixture. Mix 3tbsp baking soda, 1 tbsp dish soap and 1/4 cup warm water. Rinse and Enjoy your fresh bright sink.

Copper

Copper sinks are less common, and require special care. It’s important to not use anything abrasive on these sinks so you keep the dark patina scratch free. To clean your copper sink, simply wash with microfiber cloth and dish soap than rinse.
